The ALJ is an open access journal (publications available online for users to read, download, copy, distribute, and use with attribution). Its international team of editors included editors from India, Greece, Canada, and the United States. The peer-reviewed articles are multidisciplinary and broadly focused.

The journal welcomes submissions of reflective essays that explore the satisfactions and frustrations of careers spent at SCUs, studies of specific topics based on quantitative and/or qualitative research, and articles that focus on application and pedagogy.
