Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the amount of pre- service preparation in mathematics that had been completed by mathematics teachers in Class A high schools of Kansas as based upon the criteria of semester hours in mathematics and course work; to determine the opinions of high school mathematics teachers, college mathematics instructors, and high school administrators pertaining to the certification requirements of Kansas for teaching high school mathematics; to determine what college mathematics courses and how many semester hours these three groups of educators believe are necessary for a teacher to be well prepared to teach mathematics in the traditional high school mathematics curriculum; and to determine the opinions of high school administrators and college mathematics instructors concerning modern mathematics.
