Abstract
The purpose of this study was to make a critical analysis of the practicality of the outdoor laboratory as a teaching facility in high schools of Midwestern Kansas. The study was limited to operating high schools within an area defined on the north and south by the Kansas State Line, on the west by Federal highway 83, and on the east by Federal highway 281. The information for the study was drawn from a questionnaire which was submitted to biology teachers of eighty operating high schools in the area delimited by the stated boundaries of the study and from interviews with instructors who presented both positive and negative attitudes toward the use of the outdoor laboratory.
