Artist's Statement
I originally referenced this piece from a collage composed of photos taken of a Julius Caesar bust from different perspectives. I've included twenty-three major crystal-like structures, as well as some secondary protrusions, one for every stab wound involved in the assassination. I wanted to make this piece more about the betrayal dealt to Julius; however, the assassination of Caesar is inherently tied to the destruction of centralized power and authoritarianism as well, so touching on that subject was a compulsion of meaning for me as well. I kept the edges of the work clean to make the subject feel more static and lifeless, like stone.
