Tim Johnson Postcard Collection

This collection, donated by FHSU Alum Tim Johnson, features postcards of various places and events, mainly in Kansas. Topics included are fairs, motels, hospitals, towns, the Garden of Eden in Lucas, and the Waconda Spring in Mitchell County are among items depicted in this collection. Some items in this collection may contain racially insensitive or offensive content.

This black and white photographic postcard features three portraits. The photo on the left portrays a man wearing a suit and is visible from the knees up. The photo in the middle portrays two men wearing the suit jacket. The jacket is large enough to go around both men. The photo on the right portrays two men wearing the pants of the suit. The pants are large enough for both men to stand in them. Printed text is above and below the photos.

This black and white photographic postcard features an outdoor nativity scene. The 2-D imagery depicts cut out shapes of individuals, animals and elements referring to the nativity. A manger and lean-to are physical structures. Signs are on the left and right of the scene. A road and house are in the background. This black and white photographic postcard features the Hotel Leroy in Hanover, Kansas. This two story brick building features a covered porch and a telephone booth on the side of the building. This black and white photographic postcard depicts a stone quarry in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. A hole in the ground reveals layers of limestone. Men line the back of the quarry and are standing on either side of the hole. A pulley system lifts a cut limestone block up to a cut rock pile on the right. A horse and wagon are in the background. Piles of cut rock are on the right side in the background. Rejected rocks are in the foreground. Printed text is on the bottom of the card.

There is a water tower to the left. Three people are standing inside the property. One man is at the fence and two women are on the front porch. This card depicts the northeast view and has handwriting at the bottom.

This black and white photographic postcard features a window display at the Norton Clothing Company. Pedestals are set up with ears of corn on top with labels of information. A sign reads "Taken from Frank Palmer field where the National Corn Husking Contest will be held Nov. 14th 1930." Handwriting is on the bottom left of the card.

Postcard: Notice of Dues Due to the Larned Klan

This black and white printed postcard contains printed text indicating that annual dues to the Ku Klux Klan are due. Typed text fills in the date, amount and name.
Postcard: Nurses, Patients and Visitors in a Hospital Ward

This black and white photographic postcard depicts the nurses, patients and visitors in a hospital ward. A line of beds along the left wall holds patients. A nurse is at the front of the room and one at the back. There are visitors sitting next to the patients by the beds. One woman is changing a light fixture above a patient's head. There is a nun in the middle background. Tables and furniture run down the center of the room.

This black and white photographic postcard features the recreation area for the nursing staff. It has a two story high ceiling with an entrance from the second floor or first floor. Padded chairs line the right side of the wall. There are couches on the other three walls. A fireplace is on the right wall. A table and chairs are in the background. Large rugs cover the floor.
Postcard: Nursing Station at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, Texas

This color photographic postcard features a nursing station. A receptionist sits at a wrap around desk with glass partitions on top. She is wearing a blue stripped shirt and glasses. There are flower arrangements on each side of her. Two nurses behind the receptionist face each other at their desks. The left nurse is sitting and the nurse on the right is standing. There are cabinets on the right side of the room and a doorway. There is a doorway in the background leading to another room.
Postcard: Oakley Advertising Club Float. I.O.O.F. Celebration, Oakley, Kansas April 23, 1925

This black and white photographic postcard features an image of the parade during an Independent Order of Odd Fellows Celebration. A truck wrapped in American flags contains a group of young people sitting on both sides in back. A banner representing the Advertising Club hangs on the side of the truck. Another automobile with "Welcome IOOF" on the side follows behind the truck. Buildings are in the background and handwriting is at the bottom of the card.

This black and white photographic postcard features a group of people in Kiowa County, Kansas. Six men sit around a table and they are wearing suits. Eight men and one woman are behind the table. The men wear suits and the woman wears a dress. The photo is overexposed and the woman's face is faded. A desk with office materials lines the right wall. Postcard: Official Route, Tom Mix Circus and Wild West

This color printed postcard features an illustration of a touring schedule for the Midwest area. The Tom Mix Circus performed circus acts and other performances as entertainers. They also included the more contemporary "motorized circus", including trucks and trailers. This is the first year, 1935, of the show touring under Tom Mix's name. The top of the card has purple circus images of a woman on a trapeze bar, cowboy on a horse and a clown. There is red print at the top and black print below the image. There is typewriter typed text on the back of the card.
Postcard: Old Officers Quarters, Fort Harker, Kansas

This colorized photographic postcard features a building in Kanopolis, Kansas. Fort Harker was an active military location until 1872. This one story building was the Officers quarters. It depicts vegetation growing up the front porch columns and a fence in the foreground next to a road. There is printed text at the top left corner.

This black and white photographic postcard features a sod house. A sod structure is attached to the right of the house. Logs are propped on the left side of the house to support the side of the structure. Written text is at the bottom of the photo.
