Abstract
Along with "life" and "liberty," the Declaration of Independence identified "the pursuit of happiness," as a primary objective for establishing democratic governance. Individuals develop and seek happiness according to necessity, hopes, and values, but what does it mean for citizens to draw inspiration from happiness as a common purpose? The American Democracy Project at Fort Hays State University invites you to join us at the Fall Kickoff of events and opportunities related to our theme for the 2026-27 academic year: Civic Happiness. Our special guest, Library Dean Ginger Williams, will share the extraordinary plans for campus and community celebration of the 250th Anniversary of our national founding.
