Abstract
The preambles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution contain explicit or implicit reference to many important philosophical ideas. Dr. Tostenson will emphasize three: Happiness, liberty, and justice. He will try to clarify what these ideas involve, the important relationships among them that make them so important for our founding political documents, and how they might be relevant to contemporary political debates.
