Abstract

Briefly, this novel, and therefore life, I believe, is deterministic in that there are causes which have resultant effects, which in turn become causes that result in other effects. The chain is long and perpetual. But as an avid, and poor, gambler, I believe in chance--the odds. Timing is the essence of life, and I hold that events and men hold their own destiny in their clumsy hands. The chain can be broken, though another is immediately started; this too can be broken, and with another chain being begun.
