Abstract
In this study on power relationships in neuropsychiatric hospitals, a number of problems were investigated. These may be enumerated as follows: 1. How do five groups of professional personnel (psychiatric aide, nurse, physician, psychologist, and social worker) and one group of patients view their own group and the other five groups as to the amount of dominance present in psychiatric treatment as indicated by the power axis in Leary’s system of interpersonal diagnosis? 2. To what degree or level are these differences between the groups perceived significant? We were interested in testing the hypothesis that there will be no significant difference in the way the groups are seen as to their position on the power axis of the Leary.
