Abstract
My current work emphasizes the vessel aesthetic and surface manipulation. The majority of these vessels are transformed through hand-built sculptural additions and the utilization of non-traditional finishing surfaces such as terra sigillitas and engobes. Low-fire finishes make it possible to achieve textural depth with subtle color variations, creating a mysterious landscape quality where bony outcroppings advance and recede on desert-like surface. These forms are symbolic of growth, evolution, and decay – representative of man’s own metamorphic process.
