Abstract
I have discovered through my teaching experience that in order for an instructor to set goals for their students, they must first meet or exceed these expectations in their own work. My primary objective as an instructor and illustrator is to creatively approach subject matter which is not frequently illustrated, or which is difficult for my students to illustrate and take back to the classroom new techniques and approaches to design. I felt that it was necessary to choose aspects of the commercial industry which would be most appropriate for illustrative experimentation. Through observation and research I chose cuisine and department store promotion as two areas which would enable me to experiment with various mediums, techniques, and compositions. When developing the “Cuisine Unique Series” I realized that continuity, visual impact and effective representation of the overall concept were of utmost importance. Using mixed media with emphasis in colored pencil I was able to concentrate on details and more effectively improve my style.
