Abstract
The purpose of the researcher was to investigate stress in nurses in rural areas. The researcher employed the Clinical Stress Questionnaire (CSQ) The sample consisted of 47 nurses. Six composite null hypotheses were tested. A status survey design with pregrouping and post hoc grouping was employed. Eight independent variables were investigated: (1) worksetting, (2) formal education, (3) age, (4) marital status, (5) time since graduation, (6) time in practice, (7) salary and (8) work status. The dependent variables employed were scores from five subscales: (1) threat, (2) challenge, (3) benefit, (4) harm and (5) total. Five composite null hypotheses were tested employing three-way analysis of variance. One composite null hypothesis was tested employing a one-way analysis of variance. A total of 99 comparisons plus 46 replications were made and 5 were statistically significant at the .05 level. Of the five comparisons which were statistically significant, three. were for interactions and two for main effects.
