Abstract
The presentation of female characters in selected plays by feminist playwright Megan Terry is here examined. The thesis analyzes Calm Down Mother; Comings and Goings; The Gloaming; Oh My Darling; Hothouse; Approaching Simone; Pro Game; The Pioneer; Babes in the Bighouse; and Goona Goona. Character analysis of individual dominant female characters or comprehensive analysis of plays lacking individual dominant characters illustrated that Terry's presentation of female characters transcends stereotypical portrayal, be it feminist or mainstream. Her female characters arc presented in a life-like multitude of roles and positions and may be positive or negative role models, depending on the context of the play. The mother-daughter relationship is a dominant theme and serves to emphasize the common bond and intuitive strength defining Terry's female characters.
