Abstract
This study was designed to survey Kansas authors, either by birth or residence who have had recent books published for children or adolescents. A summary of each author's work was included with a biographical sketch. In the biographical sketch of each known author, statistical information such as birth date, education and occupation was included. In addition an attempt was made to determine interesting details not usually known such as purpose of writing, beginning of career, and hobbies or interests. A further study was made of recent books about famous Kansans, books which have their settings in Kansas, and books related to Kansas background and history. A portion of these books were most useful as reference and resource material. Therefore, no summary was given but rather a statement with regard to the type of material in the book. The summary was not intended as a critical analysis in any way. It was, instead, an effort to become familiar with the style, type of subject matter, and grade level or age group of each author's work. Any relationship or connection with Kansas was stressed.
