Abstract
As a result of observing inadequate teaching methods of art, and searching for answers to other teachers' questions concerning art lessons, this curriculum guide of explanations of art principles and definite ways of teaching them was developed. It was specifically designed for the Dominican Teaching Sisters of Great Bend, Kansas, to assist them in their endeavors to establish a suitable art program in their schools. Experiences in course work at Fort Hays State College were used as a background for the study in learning new approaches to the teaching of art. The procedures were developed through personal classroom teaching experiences and experimentation with other teachers in St. Rose of Lima School, Great Bend, Kansas. These experiences and experimentations proved valuable in making corrections and/or additions as was deemed necessary. The problems presented in this guide provide the teacher with suggestions for teaching and experiencing art in her classroom. Art projects, suitable for grades from kindergarten through grade eight and written in lesson plan form, were developed in the following areas: Design, Drawing, Painting, Block Printing, Poster Making, Sculpture and other three-dimensional activities, and Appreciation.
