Artist's Statement
Women face a number of double standards in society. These labels and statements began from a young age. For example, girls are often told that if a boy is teasing her, that means he likes her, or that small straps on tank tops are distracting. These seemingly minor occurrences only snowball with age. As young girls grow into women, the wall of double standards and scrutiny builds up no matter the decisions she makes or what she wears. However, they’re not alone. We can help them climb over this wall of judgement. Using 3D glasses, the viewer can see both perspectives separately. One set of words depicts reality while the other set depicts what we hear day-to-day in place of the truth.
The visual effect was inspired by anaglyph illustrations. Anaglyphs in artwork utilize red and blue lines for the purpose of conveying two images at once, with each only being legible with a specific filter.
