Artist's Statement
Mariana's Cafe is a coffee and tea product line in which I experimented with creating a cohesive, memorable brand identity that could be easily expanded, utilizing different design vehicles such as visual metaphor. Like the lid to a teapot, the whale wears different "hats" over its blow hole. The pressurized water a whale pushes out of its blow hole resembles steam. The coffee bean ties in the fact it's also a coffee brand, as well as looking like a closed eye. The name "Mariana" comes from the Mariana's trench, representing the depth of flavor every product contains, as well as being a nod towards the high-temp hydrothermal vents that heat up the water around it, not unlike the process of brewing coffee and steeping tea.
