Artist's Statement
This gouache piece is about fearing perception and shielding oneself from it. Each colored hand represents a separate internal conflict that is contributing to the impulse to hide oneself. They are based upon past conflicts, current emotions, and future concerns. The expressive background symbolizes perception as a whole. I selected purple for this because its' mix of warm and cool tones mimics mixed views. The limbs fade into the background because they ultimately stem from the fear.
