Artist's Statement

This piece was meant to represent what it's like growing up in a dying midwest town. The young person in the painting is vibrant and colorful, compared to her dull and desaturated surroundings. She looks to either just be passing by, or even leaving. The fact that even the US Post Office, the one building that it seems every town, no matter how small, has, is long boarded up and abandoned, is meant to show how the country itself seems to have forgotten these rural ghost towns.
