Fort Hays Kansas State College
In October 1969 Fort Hays Kansas State College inaugurated Dr. John W. Gustad as the fifth president of the Western Kansas institution. This book includes the texts of the addresses given at the inauguration and during the week following the ceremony. Scholars from throughout the United States as well as distinguished faculty members from the Fort Hays State staff appeared during the inauguration series.

Hitler and Keitel: An Investigation of the Influence of Party Ideology on the High Command of the Armed Forces in Germany Between 1939 and 1945

The eventual struggle between these two Weltanschauungen, National Socialism, and Marxism, needed to be translated into reality. The Program of the National Socialist German Worker's Party proposed in Point 22 the creation of a People's Army. After 1941 he intensified his attempts to make the Wehrmacht the tool of National Socialist ideology. It is the purpose of this study to trace Hitler's evolving program of using the military to accomplish his political ends.

The Social Views of Dwight L. Moody and Their Relation to the Workingman of 1860-1900

This evaluation is complicated for two basic reasons. The amount of subjectivity that enters into one's assessment always plagues any attempt on the part of the historian to be objective; however, it seems that religious phenomenon is even more difficult to evaluate honestly. This writer believes that he has no "axes to grind" in regard to Moody and the workingman. The record of history has been the primary interest.

A History of the Violin Étude to About 1800 Volume II

The purpose of this study is to investigate and ascertain the history and development of the étude as a specific form of didactic literature for the violin. All influential factors, both non-musical and musical, are considered; in a study of this type, however, more space is devoted to the musical than to the non-musical elements. This being the case, an investigation of instructional materials for the violin comprises the major portion of this writing. The period covered is form 1523 to around 1800.

J.C. Denious: Public Servant and State Promoter of Southwestern Kansas

This biographical study is primarily concerned with the political, economic, and social activities and interests of Mr. Denious while he served in the capacity of State Senator and Lieutenant Governor. In the course of state growth and development, it is unfortunate that important contributions by certain dedicated public servants are little known or remembered. In a small way, it is the purpose of this study to help rectify this situation.

This paper reevaluates, and where desirable, synonymizes species. Previously unrecorded species are described and illustrated. The environment of the Niobrara Formation in Kansas is described. The author collected specimens in Scott, Logan, Gove, Trego, Rooks and Phillips Counties, Kansas.

Mammalian Distribution Within Biotic Communities of Northeastern Jewell County, Kansas

Soil-Vegetation Relationships of A Blue Shale-Limy Upland Range Site in Ellis County, Kansas

The objective of this study was to determine the soil-vegetation relationships of a blue shale-limy upland range site. Vegetative composition and production were determined for each soil within the range site. Some of the more important physical and chemical properties, such as texture, depth of development, and general fertility, were determined for each soil.

Alessandro Raujerij's Collection of Canzoni per Sonare (Venice, 1608) Volume II Edition

Among the Venetian printers who published music in the opening decade of the seventeenth century, Alessandro Rauerij was one o fthe most active. The Canzoni consists of nine part-books-- eight for the melodic voices; the ninth, an organ-bass. The collection contains thirty-six instrumental canzonas. The present volume constitutes a modern edition of Rauerij's collection and is presented in an open score.

A Preliminary Survey of the Algae of Cheyenne Bottoms in Kansas

The purpose of this study was to classify and describe some of the algae of Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Refuge, Barton County, Kansas. The general geographic location is northeast of Great Bend, Kansas. A natural basin has been converted by dikes into a group of pools. The study was made over a two year period starting in May, 1960.

Dry-Plains Conservation: an activity or experimental method of teaching soil and water conservation in Southwestern Dry-Plains natural science classrooms.

This paper is an attempt to provide teachers in the dry-plains regions with certain concepts and techniques believed to be of value in assisting students to develop an understanding of the uniqueness of their environment. While most of the activities, experiments, and demonstrations were first organized for a biology class, many of them should be suitable for use in other classes which involve the natural sciences.

Euphthiracaroidea of California Sequoia Litter: With a Reclassification of the Families and Genera of the World (Acarina: Oribatei)

The specimens on which this study is based were collected in litter under both the coast redwood, Sequoia sempervirens Endlicher, and Sierra redwood, S. gigantea Decaisne. The results of this study are the taxonomic discrimination of the speicies of each redwood region.

Bibliography of Master's Theses: Fort Hays Kansas State College 1930 - 1962

Fort Hays Kansas State College has offered the master's degree since 1929 and a modern graduate program has been developed. Prior to 1942 a thesis was required of all candidates for the master's degree; but since that time, candidates in certain subject areas have been permitted to substitute master's reports, and creative thesis, production thesis, or substitute course work for a thesis.
The Fort Hays Studies Series is a series of monographs beginning in 1937 and published periodically until 2010. Written by FHSU faculty, these works cover topics including history, geology, biology, music, economics, and others. The Ethnic Studies Series is part of the larger collection and contains five monographs written on the history of the local Volga-German population.
