Abstract
Following the instructional methods of structured literacy is not entirely different from jigsaw puzzle assembly. The author reflects on similarities between effective literacy instruction and experiences assembling jigsaw puzzles. Both involve sequential, cumulative instruction; varying levels of explicitinstruction; and assessment. Motivation, engagement, executive function skills, and strategy use play important parts as well.
