Description

This 12-page color newsletter is a typed document about the Walker Army Air Base. However, page 1 is machine-printed. This document is listed as Volume 1, Number 10, published on Friday, April 23, 1943. The Walker Air Base was located between Walker and Victoria, Kansas. The top of the first page features a printed illustration titled “Walker Talker,” depicting an air force plane accompanied by an air force base and tower. Below the title is a bordered rectangle titled “Walker Talker wishes you a Joyous Easter.” Above the title on page 1 is a printed illustration of Easter lilies. Below the title is a Bible excerpt from St. Mark XVI, 1-7. Below the excerpt are two red crosses turned into the middle of the page. Between them is a printed illustration of a book in front of a torch, and beneath that is another bunch of Easter lilies. On both sides of the border, silhouettes of soldiers stand sideways, facing inward. Both wear army uniforms and rifles. The top of page 2 has a printed illustration of an air force insignia with wings. The top of page 6 is titled “Easter Sunrise Service” in hand-written lettering. Below the title are illustrations of three Easter lilies. The top of page 7 has an illustrated header titled “Fun for you” in illustrated bubble lettering. The letter “o” in the word “for” is the hat of a drawing of an acrobat figure. To the left of the figure are the hand-written words “Places to go,” and to the right are the words “Things to do.” The middle of page 7 features another title, “Movies,” in illustrated bubble letters. The top of page 8 has the illustrated title “Walkerettes,” written in small flowers. Beside the title are doll-like figures of women wearing large hats, voluminous dresses, and holding umbrellas. A column in the middle of page 9 has the illustrated title “Rambilng in the dark.” Toward the bottom of page 10 is the title “Oh Betty!,” written next to a megaphone. The top of page 11 is titled “Sports” in bubble letters. Pages 1, 2, 3, and 12 are especially yellowed, and there are small tears on pages 1 and 2.
