Description
This black and white photograph features a group of Fort Hays State University college students partaking in an outdoor tug-of-war challenge. The picture is set outdoors at Big Creek in Hays, Kansas, surrounded by trees and a sloped bank. A bearded man wearing a long-sleeved plaid flannel shirt, overalls, and wire-rimmed glasses is yelling at the man who is pulling on the rope as the other bystanders watch and yell. The tug-of-war participant, wearing striped athletic shoes, cut-off shorts with a woven leather belt, and a short-sleeved shirt with the Greek letter Phi, is leaning his body weight back (to the right of the photograph). One woman bystander wears aviator glasses, a peasant blouse, and jeans. Next to her is a man with shoulder-length brown hair. He is wearing a T-shirt with a cartoon image on it and jeans. At the far right is a college man wearing wire-rimmed glasses and hair just below his ears.
