Description

This black and white photograph features the unveiling of the Pilot Award wooden plaque during the 75th-anniversary celebration of Fort Hays State University, the same year the name changed from Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1977. Dale Ficken, the art professor who carved the plaque, stands on the far left, wearing a leisure suit, striped tie, glasses, and a nametag with an FHSU ribbon. Ficken is actively pulling the sheet off to unveil the plaque. An unnamed woman is wearing light pants and a butterfly-sleeve blouse to the right of the photograph. To the far right, another man watches the unveiled plaque, wearing pants, a short-sleeve button-down shirt, a striped tie, a wide white belt, and glasses. Two additional unveiled plaques stand behind the trio, held by wooden easels. A plaque on the right waits to be revealed.
