Description

This black and white photograph features Kansas Governor Robert Bennett Speaking at Fort Hays State University’s 75th Anniversary Ceremony. Robert Bennett is standing behind a microphone stand / portable lectern and speaking at an event during the 75th anniversary of Fort Hays State University on June 23, 1977, celebrating the completion of the David Andrew Riegel Animal Science Laboratory. The microphone stand has four extendable metal legs that hold the opened case of a portable lectern, speaker, and microphone. Three other people, including Gerald W. Tomanek, are seated in chairs behind the speaker on the wooden stage. Robert Bennett is wearing a sports coat, a striped tie, dark-colored pants, and black dress shoes. A nametag and ribbon that reads “FHSU 1902-1977” are attached to his sport coat. Straw or grass is on the ground in front of the makeshift platform of linoleum and plywood where the man is speaking.
