Description

Another view of the 1952 performance by the Bloomer girls at the 50th anniversary of Fort Hays Kansas State College. The black-and-white photograph depicts eight women wearing vintage sailor uniforms - i.e., dark long-sleeved shirts tucked into dark puffy knee-length bloomers with dark tights and white high-top sneakers on a stage in Sheridan Coliseum. The supports under the portable stage are uncovered and clearly visible. In front of the stage sit multiple chairs and four music stands. Two women with short hair sit watching the performance from the chairs. The women on the stage stand in three lines, with the left-most and center lines having three women and the right-most line having two. Each woman holds a dumbbell in each hand and has her arms raised out to the side of her body. Behind the women is a light-colored curtain positioned below a depiction of a basketball hoop.
