Abstract
It is the purpose of this study to present the various policies and procedures for operating a stores system. Further to present the results of a survey of colleges and universities showing the type of stores system they maintain. And with this information make recommendations as to the type of stores system to establish for different sized institutions. It is hoped that this study will provide information and guidance in establishing and operating a stores department in an institution of higher education. It is a general survey of practices and is not intended to be a manual of detailed procedures. Each institution should develop its own procedural manual for internal use.
