Abstract
The purposes of this study were: (1) to show in abbreviated form the progress of knowledge of malaria from the earliest records to the present; (2) to show, through description of the disease, its importance as a world medical problem. Importance of the study. According to Woytinsky (1953), malaria is one of the most important of all diseases from a world viewpoint. To give a better understanding of its seriousness, a clinical picture has been given which includes cause, manner of spreadm, cure and means of prevention. Economic implications may be drawn within an individual's own frame of reference, which illustrates the part that malaria plays in the more undeveloped areas of the world.
