Abstract

A survey of the prairie was made in the early spring of 1952. Vegetation on the major habitats showed considerable variation in basal cover and species composition. To determine seasonal and monthly yield during the growing period, vegetation on each quadrant was clipped on the 15th day of each month (except when no growth occurred) from June to September. Average height of new growth for each species was also taken at this time. The clipped forage was air dried and weighed and the weights were then converted to pounds per acre. Midgrass, shortgrass and forbs were clipped and recorded separately.
