Abstract
The objectives of the education of exceptional children must be in accord with the principles of democracy. They do not differ from the general objectives of education for all children; only the means of obtaining these objectives must differ. The Educational Policies Commission has identified four groups of objectives or educational purposes relating to the person himself, to his membership in the family or community group, to his activities as a producer and consumer, and to his life as a citizen. The commission defines these four groups as the objectives of self-realization, human relationship, economic efficiency, and civic responsibility.
