Abstract
This thesis is a biography of William Barclay "Bat" Masterson. Kansas has an unusual and a brilliant history. The men who lived within its boundaries when this history was being made, and who helped make it, are becoming older each year; historians and biographers have only a short time in which to secure their stories, which will, otherwise, go with them when they die. With this thought in mind, the author has selected the live of William Barclay Masterson, a colorful figure in the history of Dodge City, Kansas, for preservation.
