Abstract
This nonexperimental descriptive investigation was conducted on older rural women (N=50) in Northwestern Kansas to detect the barriers that hinder them from seeking mammography. The Neuman Systems Model (1989) provided the foundation for investigating the relationship between the subject and the environment. The purpose of this investigation was to identify the perceived barriers to enable more effective planning and implementation of programs to stimulate more women to have mammography screening. As the guide for this investigation, the Neuman Systems Model worked well in establishing a relationship between the barriers in the environment influencing the basic core structure.
