Abstract

With the continuous dumping of solid waste, the current Ellis County, Kansas landfill is expected to be filled within the next five years. In addition, Ellis County must select a landfill type by September of 1993 in accordance with United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Guidelines or opt to haul its waste to other out-of-county facilities. Therefore, it is imperative that new sites be selected to assist the county in its decision process. One method of locating and evaluating potential landfill sites is with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
