Abstract
This study focused on components of existing commercial physical restraint programs as well as those of existing public school physical restraint programs currently used in Kansas public schools. Data that was collected was used to determine components to be used in developing a physical restraint program. Data taken from special education directors and teachers of behavior disordered students indicated that both administrators and educators feel an increasing need for such policy. Further, the data indicated than an overwhelming majority of Kansas school districts do not have an established policy or established training program in physical restraint.
