Abstract
While assisting in the work of the commerce department of the Fort Hays Kansas State College, the writer frequently had called to his attention the degree of thoroughness, or lack of it, with which high school students are being prepared for college work. This degree of preparation presented itself frequently in the matter of preview tests given to beginning college students in commercial courses, the purpose of which was to discover the placement of these students in college classes. For instance, many classes in the commercial department of the college require for entrance on the part of the student, certain courses which may or may not have been taken in the high school. In many instances students did have the prerequisite courses in high school but were unable to continue with the advanced work in college.
