Abstract
The major thesis of my work involved combining drawing techniques and ceramic techniques in such a manner that it would enhance both media. This was achieved by making sculptured forms and reliefs, then proceeding to draw into and on the surface of the clay. The idea of trying to maintain as much of the drawing surface quality as possible led me to the use of soluble salts and underglazes. This process achieves a soft and subtle look on stoneware clay. This also enabled me to maintain the drawn quality on the stoneware fired clay. These are not the only techniques that can be used in combining clay and drawing, but it is the direction I chose to pursue and I feel quite confident in the techniques that I have explored.
