Abstract
The problem of excessive alcohol consumption commonly referred to as alcoholism is the nation’s number one drug problem (National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse, 1973). A conservative estimate by the American Medical Association (1973) indicated that 7% of the adult population in the United States abuse alcohol. More than 10 million men and women manifest life problems directly related to undisciplined drinking patterns (Richardson, 1972). The magnitude of America’s alcohol abuse problem is indicated in the findings of Second Special Report on Alcohol and Health (NIAAA, 1975).
