Abstract
This study attempted to identify and predict student rates of progress in a Personalized Systems of Instruction course. Rates of progress for each student in two semesters were plotted on cumulative curves. These curves were submitted to three judges who sorted the curves into various groups, based upon similarity. Early assignment rules and full decision rules were written and applied to the curves from both semesters. The results indicate that there are identifiable rates at which students progress through a PSI course and that it is possible to predict a student's final standing in this course based upon his performance in the first half of the semester.
