Abstract
The role of education in our society is changing. Some societies can utilize only a small number of highly educated persons in the economy, and under these conditions, education serves as a sorting out process to discover the talented few who are to be given advanced educational opportunities. The complexities of skills required by the work force in the United States and other highly developed nations demand that the assumption no longer be made that education is for a select few.
