Abstract
A great deal of my painting is accomplished without using the traditional brush on canvas method of applying paint. I use a spray gun, aerosol spray paint cans, splatters, and drips to apply paint to canvas, often masking areas or using stencils to obtain a desired effect in a certain area. Many rich textures can be obtained with these indirect methods. Combining the traditional brush painting techniques with the indirect techniques is a very effective method of controlling the often accidental results of the indirect techniques. This thesis is the result of experimentation with technical aspects of indirect painting combined with brush painting.
