Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among two subtests, word recognition, and oral paragraphs, of four diagnostic reading tests, the Durrell Analysis of Reading Difficulty, the Diagnostic Reading Scales, the Gates-McKillop Reading Diagnostic Tests, and the Classroom Reading Inventory, as far as grade level placement is concerned. Word recognition and oral paragraph subtests were selected for several reasons: (1) These subtests were basic to all four inventories. (2) It was felt less subjectivity enters in scoring these subtests. (3) They are generally considered to be fair indicators grade level achievement.
