Abstract

Male and female undergraduate college students were administered the Byrne Repression-Sensitization (R-S) Scale and the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) for the purpose of looking at the relationship between three levels of neuroticism, extroversion-introversion, and repression-sensitization. The results indicated that: (a) neuroticism, as measured by the EPI, is associated with emotionality as measured by the R-S Scale; (b) sex is not associated with defensive behavior patterns; (c) extroversion-introversion is not associated with ones placement on the R-S continuum; and (d) extroversion-introversion tendencies are not magnified at high levels of neuroticism.
