Abstract
To evaluate the reliability of Praeterita as a sound basis for biographers is the purpose of this investigation. The method of research employed was to examine Praeterita, study other available evidence concerning the period of Ruskin's life covered in the autobiography, then to compare the evidence accumulated with Ruskin's own account. Three principal influences in Ruskin's life were investigated: his relationship with his parents, his marriage to Euphemia Gray, and his infatuation for Rosa La Touche.
