Abstract

The mammalian fauna of east central Russell County was studied to ascertain which species were present, the habitat occupied by each and to prepare representatives as permanent specimens for study and future reference. During the main period of investigation, June to October 1965, 32 species representing 27 genera, 14 families, and 6 orders were collected from habitats within the study area. Attempts were made to sample as many different habitats as possible to obtain some indication of habitat preferences. General notes on the climatic and edaphic factors were recorded as well as detailed descriptions of the vegetation found in each of the sampled habitats.
