Description
This black and white photograph features a woman, Anna Sternberg, standing by a Portheus skeleton that is excavated at the base of a rock formation west of Elkader, Kansas. The tail part of the fish can be seen in a frame set up around it. Opposite the woman are several supplies, including pails and large bags. There is a big hole in the wall of the rock formation to the left of the woman. Behind the rock formation stands a white tent. The prairie is in the background. This fossil became part of the Denver Museum of Natural History collections.
