Description

This black and white photograph features two men wrapping bones in Kneehill County, Alberta, Canada. They are wrapping the bones in a process that George Sternberg calls the bone bed. One of the men is sitting next to the fossil, while the other man is standing and bending over the fossil as he works on it The man with plaster on his hands is Peter Bungart. Pails and other tools are next to the second man. Other large bones are in the foreground waiting to undergo this process. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
