Description

This black and white photograph features people getting ready to ride in a motor boat on the Red Deer River. Two women are at the back of the boat and two men are near the front. A third man has one foot in the boat and the other foot on the front part of the boat; he is holding a pole. A fourth man stands on the scow and is pushing the boat away with his left foot. Peter Bungart is facing the camera and stands in the boat. Trees are along the banks on the other side of the river, and outcroppings can be seen in the background. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
