Description

This black and white photograph features the scow after completion. The three men depicted in the picture appear to be working to start launching it onto the water. In the background of the photo, there are many trees, and a railroad bridge can be seen to the far right. Among the trees is a worn wooden rail fence. Also, to the far right is pictured a small sliver of the river. The remaining lumber from the construction of the scow is on the far left of the frame. This lumber can be observed in other photographs of this site. Some of the lumber is covered by a tarp or possibly the tent. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
