Artist's Statement
Growing up, my mom was very influential in my exposure to and participation in the arts. As an art teacher and freelance artist, she was able to teach me at school and at home the skills I would need to be imaginative and creative as an artist. My visuals are influenced by people I have met and by my crazy imagination. I enjoy drawing people, because they are the most unique creatures on the planet. I also love to use bright colors or just blacks and whites referencing my preferred medium in drawing mostly with ink pens. Sketching and doodling is another art process that I have done from a young age, whether I am at church doodling on the bulletin or in class, art has been an expression that helps me concentrate and communicate words or visuals. My enjoyment of doodling has come from a love for comic strips like Calvin and Hobbes, Mutts Comics, and Garfield. I love the way that comic artists can tell jokes through different visuals and also tell stories through what they draw or write. I enjoy finding humor in my everyday life and want to convey that through my artworks.
