Artist's Statement
This is a depiction myself in a state of emotional exhaustion. The pose and gaze communicate fatigue and vulnerability, referencing Philip Pearlstein's use of body language as a silent narrative. Mirroring the idea of having an unusual perspective of yourself that you’re unaware of, only being seen through someone else’s eyes. Surrounded by symbolic objects, giving a sense of self-expression while imitating Pearlstein's style of creating a chaotic and claustrophobic environment.
Inspired by the modern realist painter Philip Pearlstein, whose unidealized nude figure studies redefined the standards for portraiture in contemporary art during the 1960s.
